TRUTH IN TAXATION TOWN HALL MEETING

WHAT: The Albemarle GOP will be hosting a “Truth in Taxation” town hall meeting. The guest panel will include former Delegate Peter Way, VOTORS.org Chairman Al Aitken, Charlottesville GOP Chairman Charles “Buddy” Weber, and Albemarle GOP Vice Chairman and former Jack Jouett Supervisor Candidate Christian J. Schoenewald. The majority of the meeting will be devoted to giving the public an opportunity to share their stories and opinions about the impending property tax increase. At the meeting, the Albemarle Republicans will be presenting it proposal for a County Budget Index, which considers inflation, population growth, and school enrollment, as an objective method to set the tax rate. VOTORS Chairman Al Aitken will also be presenting a proposal for a constitutional amendment that addresses the property tax system in Virginia. The event is free and open to the public, all members of the Albemarle-Charlottesville community are welcome, no one will be turned away.

WHAT: The Albemarle Republicans’ “Truth in Taxation” campaign continues with a “Tea Party.” In the finest tradition of “The Sons of Liberty,” the outraged taxpayers of Albemarle County will be holding a tea party immediately before the public hearings on Wednesday, April 4, to let the Board of Supervisors know they are being overtaxed. At the tea party, there will be two announcements: the formation of a citizen watch-dog group to provide investigation, scrutiny, and oversight of the operations and budgeting conducted by Albemarle County including its school division; and the release of results from a survey commissioned by the Albemarle Republicans, clearly indicating what the taxpayers of Albemarle want the Board of Supervisors to do with the tax rate and what they think about how the budgeting process is currently conducted.
